My name is Kathrin Flaßkamp and I just returned from parental leave to my position as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Bremen in Germany. Before, I have been a Postdoctoral Fellow in Robotics at Northwestern University, USA. I work in optimal control of dynamical systems — a fascinating area of contemporary research with a longstanding history. In addition, the field is highly interdisciplinary, as exemplified by my educational background: I completed my Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, have been working in a Neuroscience and Robotics Laboratory in a Mechanical Engineering Department and I am now at the center for industrial mathematics.
